Our Story: A Decade of English Mastiff Love

Our journey began over ten years ago with a single English Mastiff who completely stole our hearts. What started as a family adopting one playful, long-bodied pup soon blossomed into a lifelong passion for the breed. Friends and neighbors fell in love with our Mastiff, and before we knew it, we were helping other families experience the same joy.

Over the years, Elite Mastiff grew from a hobby into a mission: to share the happiness of owning a English Mastiff with others in the most caring and responsible way. We remain a small, home-based breeder by choice. This allows us to give personalized attention to every dog and puppy in our program. Each of our breeding dogs lives with us as a beloved family pet. Our children play with the puppies, and our relatives and friends often visit—ensuring every pup is accustomed to a family environment filled with warmth and trust. Through the past decade, we’ve built a reputation for quality and care, with many families coming back for a second Elite Mastiff or referring us to friends. Once they’re a few weeks old and more mobile, the real fun begins! The puppies graduate from the whelping area to a larger play space in our living room or kitchen, right in the heart of our household. Here they experience daily life — the sound of the vacuum, the doorbell ringing, maybe even the gentle curiosity of our family cat. They meet various people (of all ages) in supervised play sessions, which helps them become confident, friendly little dogs. We take pride in keeping our puppy areas impeccably clean and filled with enriching toys. They tumble around on soft blankets, explore mini obstacle courses for exercise, and even start learning to use puppy pads or go outdoors for potty training when age-appropriate. Our behind-the-scenes philosophy is simple: raise puppies with love, lots of human interaction, and a safe, stimulating environment. This way, by the time an MDH puppy goes home at around 8-10 weeks old, they are well-prepared to bond with their new family and adapt to new experiences with ease.

Behind the Scenes: Our Breeding Process & Puppy-Raising Philosophy

Ever wondered what life is like for an MDH puppy before they join your family? Behind the scenes, our days revolve around the puppies and their parents. From the moment a litter is born, our home transforms into a nursery of snuggles, small barks, and wagging tails. Newborn pups stay close to their mother in a quiet, cozy area of our home, where they are kept warm, safe, and clean. We monitor the mother’s health attentively and make sure she gets all the nourishment and love she needs, so she can take excellent care of her newborns.

As the puppies grow, we gradually introduce gentle routines to nurture their development. We handle the pups daily from their earliest days – softly holding and cuddling each one – so they learn human touch is loving and comforting. (Research shows that breeders can do a lot early on to ensure puppies grow into adaptable, well-adjusted dogs​. We also incorporate Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises in those first weeks, a practice proven to improve pups’ resilience and temperament. By the time their eyes are open and they start waddling about, our English Mastiff puppies are already familiar with the scents, sounds, and gentle handling of a home environment.

Raised with Love and Socialization from Day One

Socialization is at the core of our puppy-raising philosophy. We believe that a well-socialized puppy is key to a happy, confident adult dog. In fact, we begin socialization from day one. Our puppies are born and raised inside our home, never in a kennel out back. This means they are constantly exposed to the rhythms of family life. They hear the television, listen to us chatting, and get used to everyday household sounds. By interacting with adults, children, and even other friendly pets in our household, our puppies learn to trust and enjoy human company. We introduce them to various textures (carpet, hardwood, grass in the yard on sunny days) so their little paws experience the world without fear. We also provide age-appropriate toys that crackle, squeak, or roll, encouraging the pups to play and explore.

Between weeks 3 and 8, a puppy’s mind is like a sponge – it’s a critical window for learning about the world. We make the most of this period. Each MDH puppy gets one-on-one cuddle time and playtime every day. We might turn on the radio or play gentle recordings of different noises (thunder, traffic) at low volume, ensuring they won’t be startled later in life. Weather permitting, we allow supervised outdoor play where puppies can feel the grass, sniff the flowers, and maybe see a butterfly flutter by. All these positive early experiences help shape puppies that are adaptable and not prone to anxiety. According to experts, a breeder’s early efforts greatly help puppies become well-adjusted to all the situations they will encounter in life​ – and we certainly find this to be true. Ethical Breeding Practices & Our Certifications

Ethical breeding is the heart of our operation. We follow the highest standards because it’s the right thing to do for our dogs and for the families who trust us with their future pet. As a result, we have earned a strong reputation among the Mastiff community as breeders who truly care. So what do our ethical breeding practices look like in action?

First and foremost, we put our dogs’ welfare above all else. Our breeding dogs are never over-bred. Each mother dog has only a limited number of litters in her lifetime, with plenty of rest time in between, as recommended by veterinary experts. We retire our moms young enough to enjoy many years as spoiled pets. All our dogs live in-home with us (or with a close family member in a guardian home arrangement) – we do not keep dogs in cages or separate facilities. They sleep in our bedrooms or living room, play in our fenced yard, and go on family outings when possible. Happy, healthy parent dogs create happy, healthy puppies.

We are fully licensed and insured as required, and we stay educated on best practices. We’re proud to be in good standing with the American Kennel Club (AKC), and all our litters are AKC registerable, reflecting their purebred English Mastiff lineage. In fact, we strictly adhere to the AKC Code of Ethics for breeders and the guidelines of the Mastiff Club of America. This means we never engage in harmful breeding trends or “shortcut” methods. Our goal aligns with that of any reputable breeder: to produce healthy, well-tempered dogs that meet the breed standard​. We do not breed for any extreme or rare features that might compromise a Mastiff’s health (for example, we avoid ultra-tiny “teacup” sizes or unusual coat colors that aren’t part of the official standard). Every mating is carefully planned with the health and temperament of the puppies in mind.

Transparency is another key part of our ethics. We welcome prospective puppy parents to meet us and our dogs (either in person or via video call if you’re distant) so you can see the loving environment your puppy is coming from. We will happily show you where the puppies are raised and introduce you to the pup’s mom (and dad, if he’s on site or via photos). We also ask you plenty of questions as a buyer – not to pry, but to ensure our puppies are going to safe, committed homes. We view adopting a puppy as entering a mutual relationship: we’re here to support you, and we appreciate when families stay in touch with updates over the years! Moreover, we stand by every puppy we place. If for any reason you cannot keep your Mastiff, our contract stipulates that the dog should be returned to us — we will always take our puppies back rather than see them end up in a shelter. Responsible breeding doesn’t end at the sale; it’s a lifelong commitment to the dogs we bring into the world.

In terms of credentials, we maintain affiliations that reflect our dedication. Our breeding program participates in the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program, which stands for Health, Education, Accountability, Responsibility, and Tradition – a pledge to uphold the highest breeding standards. We’re also members of our local Mastiff breed club, attending seminars and workshops regularly to keep up with the latest in canine health and training. Staying educated helps us continuously improve; even with 10+ years of experience, we believe there’s always more to learn in order to raise the best puppies possible.

Health & Wellness: Our Commitment to Healthy English Mastiff Puppies

At Elite Mastiff, health is our absolute priority. We are deeply committed to raising puppies that are not only adorable and well-socialized, but also strong and healthy. Our breeding adults are cherished family members, and we ensure they are in excellent health before they are ever bred. Each parent dog undergoes thorough veterinary exams and health screenings regularly. In line with Mastiff Club of America recommendations, we conduct genetic tests and obtain official certifications to screen for hereditary issues. All our mom and dad Mastiffs are tested for PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) and have annual CAER eye exams, along with Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) clearances for their hearts and patellas (kneecaps)​. These health tests help us select only the best, healthiest dogs for our breeding program, so that our puppies have the greatest chance at long, disease-free lives. We also pay close attention to nutrition and exercise for our adult dogs – a healthy parent tends to produce healthy pups. Our expectant mama dogs get premium quality food, prenatal vet care, and a comfortable, stress-free environment as they prepare to welcome their litter.

For the puppies themselves, we follow a rigorous health protocol from birth onward. Newborn pups are monitored around the clock, and we record their weight gains daily to ensure everyone is nursing well. We work closely with our veterinarian at every stage. Each puppy receives:

• Thorough Veterinary Exams: Our vet checks the puppies multiple times – at newborn stage, during vaccinations, and a final head-to-tail health exam before they go home. We make sure each puppy is vet-checked and certified healthy.
• Vaccinations & Deworming: Puppies are kept on a veterinarian-recommended vaccination schedule to protect them from common puppy illnesses. They receive all age-appropriate shots before leaving our care. We also perform preventative deworming at regular intervals since puppies are susceptible to worms. You’ll receive complete health records showing the dates of all vaccines and dewormings.
• Microchipping: For added security, we have each puppy microchipped (a tiny, permanent ID under the skin) before adoption, for those families who want it. This gives peace of mind in case a puppy ever gets lost – any vet or shelter can scan the chip to reunite you. (If a family prefers to handle this on their own, we accommodate that, but we strongly recommend microchipping for every pet’s safety.)
• Health Guarantee: We are confident in our breeding and care, so we provide a written health guarantee for every puppy. This typically covers genetic health conditions for a certain period. In the rare event an issue arises, we stand by our puppies and will work with you to make sure the puppy gets proper care or even offer a replacement, as outlined in our guarantee. Before any puppy goes to their new home, they are weaned onto high-quality puppy food and evaluated by our vet one final time. We only let our puppies leave at 8-10 weeks of age or later, never earlier, because it’s crucial for their development to spend adequate time with their mother and littermates.
